How to “WinCan” with the Maxprobe

Posted on: October 10th, 2019

WinCan has been a popular feature on Scanprobe’s flagship pipeline inspection camera, the Maxprobe, ever since it was released back in 2015, and in the space of almost 5 years a lot has changed in terms of technology and connectivity.  There is more to WinCan on the Maxprobe than simply the ability to perform a WinCan survey, and certainly more ways to interact with it than just simply through the control box, so to make sure you are getting the most out of your WinCan enabled Maxprobe, we have put together this helpful guide:

WinCan on the Maxprobe

This is the bread and butter that all WinCan users will know about.  The reporting software is embedded into the control box, and all the Maxprobe operator needs to do is begin a WinCan survey, input your site and run information into the load-up screens and then begin your survey. Here you can use the WRC survey codes to populate your survey with all of the critical data that your customers and other stakeholders require.  The reporting software is embedded into the Maxprobe control box as standard, and you just need to purchase the office software to be able to customise your survey reports, which can be purchased direct from WinCan.  For those who are new to the WinCan survey reporting software, they run an “Education Day” on the last Friday of the month where you will come away with a full working understanding of WinCan Embedded surveying and reporting software on the Maxprobe.

WinCan on your iPhone
Benjamin Franklin famously said “time is money”, and in 2019 this is still very much the case with patience very much in short supply.  In the drainage industry, we don’t always have the time, or simply want to have to wait to receive the survey report and its subsequent findings, and thankfully with the Maxprobe there is a solution.  You might already have heard of the mobile app mina survey and if so you will know that it enables wireless connectivity between your iPhone or iPad and your Maxprobe control box.  You might also know that mina enables you to download your mina survey reports to your device via the free mina app, but did you know you could also download your WinCan reports too?  And better still, you don’t need to have a WinCan software subscription either.  Once you have finished your WinCan survey, you can send a fully formatted WinCan report direct to your mobile device, and then send it direct to your customer.  No need to come back to the office and format the report, as the control box will do this for you.  The mina app enables this file transfer, for both mina and WinCan survey reports. But it doesn’t stop there.  Using the mina app, you can create a detailed digital survey drawing and then send this to the Maxprobe control box to add into your WinCan report!

WinCan on your Android device

Now, just because the mina mobile app is only currently available on Apple devices, that doesn’t mean you cannot access your WinCan reports on your Android device.  This is where WinCan Web comes into play.  With a WinCan Web subscription, you can send your entire survey, including all and any photos and video files directly from your Maxprobe to an online file storage facility in the cloud.  From here, using your Android device, you can access WinCan web via a log-in page on your web browser and then go on to download and share your files as you wish.  It really couldn’t be easier.  The file storage facility of your Android phone is perfect to store the files locally, and through WinCan Web you can also share direct access with whomever you like, for however long you like.  All your survey videos and files available on-the-go.

Access your WinCan Web account from your Android device to see, share and store your survey files

Access your WinCan Web account from your Android device to see, share and store your survey files

The underlying message to take from this is that, if you conduct your pipeline inspection surveys using the WinCan embedded software platform, no matter what mobile device you are using you have the capability to access it. Whether that be accessing the entire survey folder through a computer or laptop, an immediately accessible PDF report through mina on the iPhone or iPad, or access to view, save and share any and all files on your Android (or Apple) device through WinCan Web, it is possible.  And refreshingly easy.  And the Maxprobe makes it all possible.

WinCan reports without the PC software? Yep…

Posted on: March 18th, 2019

From the moment there was a Maxprobe, there was WinCan’s pipeline inspection software embedded into it.  Paired with their office-based software suite, drainage professionals could use the Maxprobe push-rod camera system with WinCan embedded to compile the intricate details of their pipeline survey into a clear and concise WinCan report so to summarise their findings.  The industry was very happy with how WinCan’s solution slotted into the industry, but standing still is dangerous…

Print or send your WinCan survey reports direct from the Maxprobe to mina, our mobile app

Print or send your WinCan survey reports direct from the Maxprobe to mina, our mobile app, available as a free download from the App Store

So now it is 2019, and technology continues to evolve, and WinCan’s involvement with the Maxprobe range has continued to evolve with it, as Scanprobe introduce our latest innovation – the ability to create a full WinCan pipeline inspection report directly from the Maxprobe control box, and then to share it to your mobile device and from there to the customer!  The days of being tied to your desktop computer are no more, and neither are the delays to your customer whilst you compile the data and format your report, the Maxprobe control box does all of this for you at the click of a button.  Better yet, all of this great functionality is included as standard in all new Maxprobe units – NO SUBSCRIPTION REQUIRED!

This latest update to the Maxprobe doesn’t stop there, as, using the mina survey free mobile app, the user is also able to create their own detailed survey map with industry standard icons, on top of a Google Maps overlay and then import this into their WinCan survey report.  Once you have imported your drawing in a matter of minutes, you can send your detailed WinCan report directly to your iPhone or iPad to then share with your customer or colleagues via any file sharing application you have installed on your device.  Suddenly your WinCan report has even greater detail and provides a deeper level of understanding to all stakeholders in the pipeline inspection project, from the end customer to the surveyor, all the way to the contractor.

So to summarise:

- FREE full WinCan reports
- FREE app

Saving you:

- time

- money

- effort

Standing still is dangerous, so we’re making sure our feet barely touch the ground!

EU Gateway to Japan – Day One / EU Gateway 日本へ:1日目

Posted on: November 19th, 2018

This week marks the beginning of the EU Gateway Business Mission to Japan, for which Scanprobe Techniques Ltd fought off over a hundred other companies to be selected with around 40 others to represent our business to the Japanese market.

For EU Gateway | Business Avenues, the Construction & Building Technologies sector covers technologies and materials related to the engineering, the design, the construction, the demolition and demolition waste services, the fitting, the arrangement, the finishing of public and private buildings as well as its renovation or deconstruction/ demolition and infrastructure works (roads, airports, ports, etc.). Recent trends underline the concept of Circular Economy – low carbon materials, greater durability or reusability/ recycling and resource efficiency.  For Scanprobe in particular, being offered such a well structured platform and fantastically arranged audience of prospective businesses to present our company and products (the Maxprobe and the TrapJumper) to was an opportunity not to be missed, and has been a welcome addition to what as already been a tremendously busy 2018 activities calendar.  As this is a very exciting time for our company, we are running a daily diary with our Managing Director Jon and UK Sales Manager Vernon as they embark on this business mission….day one!

Vernon: “Flying out Saturday evening UK time and arriving Sunday afternoon in Tokyo, there was little time to relax once we had arrived at the hotel.  There was a “Welcome & Networking Gathering” in the bar on the 30th floor of the Grand Nikko Hotel Daiba at 6pm which was a great opportunity to meet some of the other companies taking this opportunity to bring their business to Japan.  We were able to meet with the EU Gateway Communications Manager, Piero Zilio who was able to answer our questions ahead of this busy week for us, and we could share our stories and experiences so far with others making the journey across the world.  There are some very interesting people and companies joining us on this business mission, definitely feels like we are in great company here on this EU Gateway Business Mission.”

Jon: “Monday was a very helpful grounding experience I feel.  The morning had everyone in the ‘Ginga’ room where after a quick welcome every company had the opportunity to present an elevator pitch about themselves, and as Vernon said, some very interesting companies among us.  Once the presentations were finished, including a couple of Sector Expert Presentations, the afternoon was spent visiting Kajima Corporation Technical Research Institution (KaTRI for short!) to learn about their research and development methods, and how they themselves are helping to drive businesses and manufacturing techniques forwards.  This was a very interesting trip (and it also meant that I could leave Vernon alone to set up our stand!)  Now we are just about to have some dinner and prepare for the first day of the exhibitions and meetings tomorrow.”

PlumbDrain, Johannesburg: on the stand with Octopus Electronics

Posted on: August 21st, 2018

The latest stop in our whirlwind 2018 calendar saw UK Sales Manager Vernon Pain invited to attend PlumbDrain Africa 2018 with our new South African distribution partners, Octopus Electronics.

PlumbDrain 2018 South Africa with Octopus Electronics

PlumbDrain 2018 Africa with Octopus Electronics

Only a matter of weeks had gone by since our two companies had come together to take the Maxprobe to the South African market, for which we had jumped into action having the frames custom painted to suit the market, and our UK Sales Manager Vernon Pain has just returned from Johannesburg where he joined Matthew, Alan and Marianne from Octopus Electronics on their stand at the PlumbDrain exhibition for the whole 3 days.  Having seemingly decided that he hadn’t had enough of nice, hot, sunny weather Vernon was in for an extended summer whilst in the UK we became reacquainted with the rain we used to know so very well.

“The weather was fantastic, and so was the trip too to be fair, even if I was a bit tired when I arrived at 6:20am after leaving the UK at 9pm the previous night!”

Journey completed, Vernon went straight to PlumbDrain to meet Marianne & the guys to help set up, and when the doors opened the floodgates opened.

“It was the same all three days…all three mornings were very busy.  The Maxprobe was getting some great attention and we even managed to make a sale directly on the stand which was a perfect start to our relationship with Octopus Electronics.”

Vernon continued:

“It was a very impressive show, bigger than your average English show, and I think what helped our cause over the three days was the sheer positivity and enthusiasm shown by the team from Octopus Electronics.  They all made me feel very welcome from the word go and I was really able to enjoy my first experience of PlumbDrain and the South African marketplace.”

When the show closed on Friday afternoon there was no rest for Vernon, as he was back to the airport and on a flight home to London Heathrow, and finally getting home at the eye-rubbing time of 5:15am, but there’s been no sign of grumbling!

“It was a great experience for me, I’ve learnt a lot about their market and operation, and we took some very strong enquiries over the course of the PlumbDrain exhibition, it looks like the Maxprobe has been very well received!”

Maxprobe distribution extends to South Africa

Posted on: August 15th, 2018

Scanprobe Techniques are delighted to announce our new distribution partnership with one of the leading distributors, repair facilities and rental agent for CCTV push rod camera and crawler camera systems for pipeline inspection solutions in South Africa, Octopus Electronics to distribute our flagship model push-rod camera, the Maxprobe.  This new distribution partnership marks the company’s first venture into Africa, and Scanprobe are excited at the opportunities that this partnership with a company with over 20 years’ experience in the industry presents.

Octopus Electronics Teams Up with Scanprobe

Octopus Electronics is the latest distribution partner to join up with Scanprobe Techniques

Jon Barry, Managing Director of Scanprobe Techniques, says of the new distribution partnership:

This partnership speaks volumes about the strength and the direction of Scanprobe Techniques Ltd as a business.  The fact that we are now actively expanding our distribution network into Africa, with all the opportunities that this will bring shows you we are going in the right direction.  From meeting with Trevor I could see immediately that he is a driven man and he is pushing to make Octopus Electronics the place to go to for push-rod CCTV systems, and we firmly believe that the Maxprobe is a fantastic product to help him achieve this.”

UK Sales Manager Vernon Pain was key in identifying Octopus Electronics as a potential distribution partner, and he was equally optimistic:

Having spoken at great lengths with Trevor about the South African drainage market I am certain that the Maxprobe will be a great fit into their markets.  It is built not just to put an image on a screen but to handle the abrasive materials and surfaces we come across, and also to make the lives of the drainage engineer as easy as possible.  This is not just any old push-rod camera system!”

Vernon will be supporting Octopus Electronics on their stand at PlumbDrain Africa 2018 in Johannesburg from Wednesday 15th September to Friday 18th September, so if you are over for the show make sure to visit them in Hall 6, Stand F17!

Maxprobe Camera System Still Evolving!

Posted on: February 1st, 2018

The Maxprobe camera system is an evolving unit that changes constantly. Initially when launched in 2015 the unit had a standard camera head compared to today’s standard. Since January of 2017 the camera head was upgraded to a 44mm self-leveller with integral sonde within the camera housing that provides traceability up to 4mtrs deep. The Sonde itself is encapsulated in the main camera body for product robustness and compact design, rather than exposed to damage in a spring behind the camera head or potted in bulky connectors.

maxprobe camera system

We currently provide two frequencies – 33 kHz a UK standard and 512Hz (which has improved results in cast iron pipes). We recommend the C-scope MXL4 receiver to trace our equipment, as these provide the best results.

Currently, we are testing a Controller Area Network BUS system which will control numerous operational and inspection functions, allowing us to explore 3D pipe scanning and mapping. Scanprobe is also looking to develop software, as we realise that premium drainage companies are moving more into software technology when carrying out an inspection survey and are now demanding a level of technology never seen in the industry before.

Software companies like Wincan offer surveying package’s which can incorporate all manner of tracing and mapping information. With the introduction of 4G into the Maxprobe box, all surveys can be carried out on-site and sent direct to the client or office via Wincan web. Scanprobe pioneered the first camera inspection system to incorporate Wincan web and are enjoying fantastic reviews on this cutting edge technology. We feel we’ve only just scratched the surface of what can be achieved. We see the future of surveying, where all the pipes are laid out on a map in 3D with all the information (size, material, length) tagged next to each run giving water authorities a complete layout of their waste systems. Once the information has been gathered from around the country, a national waste grid system can be established. This is some way off, but the objective of Scanprobe Techniques is to provide the tools in which this can be achieved.

The latest project due for release is The Maxprobe Atex push rod system (zone 1) which is scheduled for release this year. This will give users the peace of mind to inspect, survey and trace pipes in hazardous areas with a fully independently certified inspection system.

We are constantly monitoring the needs of our customers and (without giving too much away), the future of our Maxprobe looks fantastic. We will be pushing the boundaries of inspection, tracing, mapping software coupled with reliability and durability over the coming years, so watch this space.

Posted on: April 20th, 2017

Scanprobe Spartan PartnershipScanprobe are pleased to announce a partnership with American Tool Company Spartan who are now distributing the Scanprobe manufactured Maxprobe CCTV camera range in every state of America and all terittories of Canada. The range has been rebranded Explorer for the North American market.

Spartan Tool was founded in 1943 and manufacturers professional grade sewer & drain cleaning equipment. They are based in Illinois and Michigan, USA.

Spartan Tool had been looking for a drain line inspection system with advanced technology to expand its sewer camera line and they were attracted to the Maxprobe range for its modular innovative design, robust construction and updateable software which they believe will resonate with North American consumers. The WinCan software is an additional advantage that uniquely allows a survey report to be sent directly to the cloud, where it can be downloaded and viewed anywhere in the world.

Maxprobe Web Ready Capability – “Pipe to Pocket” in an instant

Posted on: January 16th, 2017

Web Ready is WinCan’s latest initiative that allows direct connection & upload of CCTV data to WinCan Web and this capability now comes as an integral part of the Maxprobe pipe inspection system range from Scanprobe. WinCan Web is a cloud transfer & delivery tool for CCTV inspection data. This could be upload & delivery of finalised inspection data from WinCan VX or transfer of data directly from WinCan Embedded hardware. No burning, postage, hunting for lost DVD’s, software installation or worries about codec playback issues. Simply upload & publish the report to the client. Once published the client has access on any device, anytime, anywhere…. Web intelligently switches from desktop view to mobile view so project access is simply on your desk or in your pocket.

web ready Maxprobe web ready2

For many years WinCan Embedded has allowed industry standard data input on site incorporated into camera system hardware. No PC or further Licences required. Data transfer was then done manually to the office based WinCan licence by USB memory stick. For some clients this lag in delivery has become an important issue. Speed from site survey to client report delivery needed improving. Adding the functionality of Web Ready to WinCan Embedded has moved things on to the next step… it’s moved online!

Web Ready allows connection to WinCan Web with remote upload from any location with Internet access. Simply complete the project in the normal way using WinCan Embedded then instead of exporting the job to USB stick simply upload to WinCan Web. The project can then be published to customer for review of Video, downloaded to office for pre delivery QA or stored in the cloud for security & peace of mind. Immediate delivery from site is now a simple integrated process.

Look out for systems supporting the Web Ready feature to ensure speedy cloud delivery direct from any location.

Web Ready, it’s the only way to go and currently Scanprobe are the only manufacturer to offer the ability to push survey information directly to WinCan WEB for the push camera itself!

CCTV Drain Camera Sales Boosted By The Maxprobe

Posted on: April 29th, 2016

CCTV Drain Camera sales at Scanprobe continue to show strong growth in 2016, boosted by the award winning Maxprobe pipe inspection system which has made such a strong impact since it’s launch last year. The latest consignment of 19 Maxprobe drain camera systems have now been successfully delivered to a well known national hire company.

CCTV drain camera

The process started in June 2015 with the question to Vernon Pain, Sales Manager at Scanprobe “so what makes your camera better than everyone else’s?” The Commercial Director must have been impressed with the response and a month later Scanprobe were presenting the Maxprobe to their purchasing team. Over the next 4 months they looked at and compared our competitors’ products to the Maxprobe whilst maintaining regular communication with us and their Senior Supply Chain Manager paid a visit to our Kenley facility to inspect each area of our business.

We are pleased to announce that the Maxprobe proved to be the best product for a plant hire company who really know their business. They wanted a CCTV drain camera that is durable, easy to use, simple to maintain and can be used in inclement weather whilst giving a great return on their investment.
